GREENVILLE, S.C.: Women’s History Month has been a month-long showcase of extraordinary, groundbreaking women across a variety of industries. Rachel Johnson joins those ranks of women this month, celebrating another milestone in the history of R-PCI Construction, an award-winning commercial general contractor, headquartered in Mount Airy, Maryland, with her promotion to Vice President, Regional Manager, based out of Greenville, South Carolina.
An increasing number of savvy women- who rock- are building a solid foundation in the construction industry. While women currently comprise a little over 9% of the overall construction workforce, recent numbers indicate that as many as 44% of the top 100 contracting companies in the United States have women in executive roles. Rachel Johnson is a unicorn among lions, proving that she has the kind of talent that can soar to new heights. Rachel is doing more than just breaking the mold- she’s breaking all the rules in a traditionally male-dominated arena.
Rachel has developed a reputation for excellence within the commercial construction industry, advancing through progressive responsibility during her career. Rachel is a graduate of Boston University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She currently serves as the Communications Chair on the Board of Directors for CREW Upstate, a networking and business development organization for successful commercial real estate professionals in Upstate South Carolina.
Rachel, a certified general contractor and licensed realtor, broke into commercial construction in 2007 serving R-PCI’s Maryland and Tampa offices, where she supported the company’s earlier years of growth. She left R-PCI when she relocated to Greenville, S.C. where she spent three years in residential construction. In 2017, Rachel answered the call to return to the R-PCI family as Regional Manager, charged with establishing and driving R-PCI’s presence in Upstate South Carolina. As Regional Manager, Rachel has played a key role in the development and expansion of R-PCI’s operations. Since her return to R-PCI, Rachel’s responsibilities have grown to cover the entire southeast region, which, thanks to a robust manufacturing presence, particularly in South Carolina, is an area where commercial construction is currently thriving.
“Rachel has been a key part of R-PCI’s success. We’re thrilled to promote her to this critical position to support our continued growth,” said Jeff Donohoe, President of R-PCI Construction.
In 2019, the construction industry is forecast to grow by at least 3%, creating the demand for almost two million new jobs by 2021. To fill this demand, smart companies are looking to tap into the skills of women in all areas, from the front-line to the C-suite. Rachel joins the growing legacy of women who are defining a new era in commercial construction, building a better tomorrow for future generations in an ever-growing industry.
